Meet Our Volunteers

Lisa J. Michaels
, who instructs our new class members in our Drawing & Water Colors class, has been drawing industriously since she was old enough to hold a pencil. A Florida native, Lisa began studying art seriously at the age of eleven, when she began to imitate masters such as Raphael and Reubens.  This earned her the title of “child prodigy” from her early teachers.

Over the past twenty five years, Lisa has produced illustrations for various clients and business owners in the Tampa Bay area and is highly respected in the community for her volunteer efforts.  In 2002 she donated her talent to Pasco County and created a  wall mural entitled “Boardwalk by the Sea” for the
Elderly Nutrition facility, which serves our senior citizens in Hudson
, Florida.

Although Lisa works in many different mediums, her most recent work utilizes  professional colored pencil and pen & ink as a mixed media.  Lisa recently commented, “I discovered that wonderfully vibrant colors could be achieved applying this medium to wood surfaces.  The varnish gives the finished piece an unexpected transparency, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to enhance the art application.”
