I have written, many times,
about receptionists who work together and develop lasting friendships.
I consider myself fortunate to volunteer as a receptionist on Friday
mornings. I look forward to this time because of the two wonderful women
who volunteer with me -- Wilma Stotler and Madelaine Woodman.
Wilma Stotler makes the
Telephone Reassurance calls. She always has a smile and upbeat
manner
about her. She loves to give us a “chuckle”, as she calls it. She read
about CARES in the newspaper and dropped by to get more information. She
had a lot of time on her hands and wanted to reach out to others and
brighten their days. She is perfect for this position. She truly cares
about the people she calls, enjoys the conversation with them and if the
need arises, follows up and finds help. Wilma enjoys
reading, bowling and participating in activities at CARES. Wilma makes
my day.
Madelaine Woodman
has been involved with CARES since 1992, first at our Hudson location on
Old Dixie Highway, and since 2002 at our current location. In 1992, she
began helping with filing, computers,
AARP and the newsletter. She
eventually took over these responsibilities. When that facility was
flooded and closed for three months, she helped salvage files. In 2002,
when we opened our new facility, she prepared the Leader, writing many
of the articles and assembling the newsletter, until it required more
time than she had to give. She did continue to do computer projects,
prepare flyers, write letters and prepare the front page of The Leader,
focusing on the holiday of the month. Everyone always looked forward to
this cover page.She now prepares
the newsletter for the Claude Pepper Senior Center as well as
volunteering as a receptionist on Friday mornings at CARES Hudson
Bayonet Point Enrichment Center.
I look forward to
Friday mornings with Wilma and Madelaine. |
