CARES Beach Chair-ity Festival & Auction – Post Event 

The second annual CARES Beach Chair-ity Festival & Auction,  April 13 & 14, 2019 was held at SunWest Park, in Hudson, FL.

Proceeds benefited CARES non-profit agency helping seniors, caregivers and families in Pasco County.

The presenting sponsor was Your Auto Giant, the New Port Richey Chevrolet, Mazda & Hyundai dealer. Other key sponsors included: SouthEast Personnel Leasing, Inc.; Great Bay Distributors; Suncoast Credit Union, Medical Center of Trinity; Coastal Rental Center; and All American Audio.

Event partners included: Amber Mariano, Florida State Representative; Jack Mariano, Pasco County Commissioner; Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources; Steve Schurdell, Hits 106; and Lisa Parisi, Express Employment Professionals.

Jemith Rosa, CARES President and CEO stated, “It takes a huge effort from many people to organize a festival such this. I am so very grateful to my staff, CARES volunteers, event partners, artists, vendors and community participants who supported this great and worthwhile fundraising event.”

Over 55 vendors participated in the festival offering food, beverages, artists, crafts, jewelry, clothing, as well as health care providers and services. Waterfront activities for the entire family were planned including: Live music by Makes Ya Momma Mad Band, MarlaJo, and MonkeyBone; Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team, sponsored by Sunstate Collision; Saturday Night Fireworks, sponsored by Barrett Harding Insurance; CARES Beach Volleyball Chair-ity Tournament; and the festival highlight, CARES Beach Chair-ity Auction.

The auction consisted of 32 hand-painted Adirondack chairs creatively designed by area artists. Many of the participating artists were members of the West Pasco Arts Guild and the Gateway Gallery & Emporium of New Port Richey. The chairs were auctioned off with prices ranging from $55 to $300 per chair. Steve Schurdell from HITS 106 was the auctioneer. John Gilliss, owner of Friendly KIA began the bidding with a guarantee of $50 for each chair. Additionally, every chair was sponsored by community businesses and organizations, raising $5,200 dollars. In total, the auction portion of the event raised $9,000 for CARES. Total festival proceeds are not yet available.

CARES Beach Chair-ity Auction trophies were awarded to the artist of chairs in three categories:

  • MOST CREATIVE: Painted by Carrissa Newcomer, Sign Artist at the Shoppes at Towne Square Mall in Spring Hill, sponsored Medical Center of Trinity. This chair had the highest bid at $300, made by John Gillis of Friendly Kia. He then gifted it to a veteran in the group who made earlier bids on the chair.
  • BEST USE OF COLOR:  Painted by Karen Jaenichen of the West Pasco Art Guild, sponsored by Solaris Healthcare Bayonet Point.
  • MOST FACEBOOK LIKES: Painted by Cassie from the PACE Center for Girls, sponsored by Home Instead Seniors Care. The winning bid was made by Megan Harding, Pasco County School Board Member, District 5 and she gifted the chair to the student artist from PACE.


CARES has organized the event in partnership with Pasco County Commissioner, Jack Mariano; SunWest Park; and WGHR-Hits 106.
